Affinion International Ace Awards 2012

With Affinion’s partnership with Sounds Commercial entering its 8th year, the challenge to better the previous year’s Affinion ACE Awards was more important than ever.  Audience expectations for this flagship event have been consistently exceeded year on year employing all creative and technical disciplines of Sounds Commercial.  At 12 months in the making, the Affinion ACE Awards 2012 again raised the bar and laid down the gauntlet for the 2013 awards!

Building on the participation in the pre-event filming for the 2011 ACE Awards when over a hundred staff performed the same choreographed dance routine in a flash mob production VT, for 2012 the challenge was that of a large scale dance battle.  With a dozen dance crews all having their own bespoke routine to perform in a fully lit HD camera studio set-up, the challenge was on!

A full day of heats culminated in a grand final creating an electric atmosphere.  The reaction when the VT was shown on the evening was palpable and deserving of the standing ovation it received from the entire audience – the winning crew were ecstatic!

The ZooNation Dance Company has performed at major events including the 2008 Beijing Olympic Handover Ceremony, Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday Celebrations, the 2011 Laurence Olivier Awards and now the Affinion ACE Awards 2012!  Fresh from the success of their award winning new West End production, Some Like it Hip Hop, a green screen shoot with their top performers was completed utilising state of the art HD cameras and motion tracking software to create in post production a full 3D environment.  The impact of this opening VT was matched by the vibrancy of the award sting VT edits that introduced each of the awards.

Lucie Jones, X-Factor finalist and star of stage and screen performed a terrific set during dinner and opened the show with a stirring number that set the mood and captured the audience’s imagination.
With a 44 ft widescreen, a custom designed Orwellian dystopian themed set and stage and the latest HD projectors, the scene was set for an awards show that yet again exceeded the audience’s expectations.

With planning for next year already underway, the challenge has yet again been set for a roof raising 2013 event!

Lee Cooper, Berlin 2012

With its roots in the east End of London, Lee Cooper is one of the few denim labels with a genuine heritage story.  Sounds Commercial continue to work in partnership with Lee Cooper as they build on their legendary British brand worldwide and this was demonstrated by their most recent international
conference and Autumn Winter Collection Launch in Berlin.

The venue was the Marriott hotel near Postdamer Plaz not far from the Brandenburg Gate, and proceedings kicked of with a welcome speech from Andy Dunkley, CEO of Red Diamond Holdings. Presentations followed from the product, design and marketing teams.

After the presentations the guests were invited to a sumptuous buffet, before being invited to see the collection show in a full on high energy fashion show.  Brilliant choreography delivered the excitement of what the Lee Cooper new range had to offer enhanced by an ever changing colour scheme with stunning use of intelligent lighting and a crystal clear sound enhancement system.  Press from all over Europe came to the show making it an exclusive high profile event.

The stage setting was a striking backdrop of curves and straight cut edged panelling receptive to the blend of the lights, with the main focus emulating from model to screen via high intensity projection, enabling every outfit to be enjoyed from every angle.
Sold in over 90 countries worldwide and enjoying double digit growth year on year, Lee Cooper stays true to its heritage of Britishness, Work Culture and Music. Sounds Commercial work hand in hand with Lee Cooper ensuring the delivery of their launch compliments their heritage and approach.

“I just wanted to thank you for your help and fantastic support at the conference in Berlin this week, feedback has been terrific and we have managed to build on the show we did in Luton in April, and now we have to plan it all over again for the next one!  Once again thanks for making it happen and I look forward to working with you again in the very near future.”

The Bristol Marriott City Centre Hotel’s Annual Staff Awards: ‘The MAFTAs’

The Bristol Marriott City Centre Hotel’s annual staff awards night ‘The MAFTAs’ took place in the hotel’s Bristol Suite last Sunday.
As well as kitting out the room with a glamorous star cloth set and moving lights, Sounds Commercial also provided a funky ‘chill out’ area complete with illuminated LED furniture.

The theme for the evening was Famous Bristol so our studio team produced a bespoke opening video which captured the imaginations of the audience and showcased what the city has to offer.  We also sourced some ‘Bristol themed’ entertainment in the form of local graffiti artist Andy Council who took to the stage during dinner to create an amazing, eight foot long ‘Famous Bristol’ Dinosaur.

Thanks to Andy and the Sounds Commercial team for all their hard work.

‘It was a good time had by all’, James Laverick, Director of Event Management, Bristol Marriott Hotel City Centre.

Novotel Fright Night on Friday, 13th

Novotel Sheffield asked Sounds Commercial to help them theme their staff Christmas party which took place on Friday 13th January. The agreed theme of ‘Fright Night’ was something we could easily undertake.

The party was held at the Mercure St Paul’s, Sheffield and they provided the staging, to add to this we provided an abundance of star cloth, a sound system, screen, projector, LED par cans and moving lights. We also provided a few props to help create the fright night experience, with coffins either side of the stage.

Guests entered the party through the ‘gates of hell’ and we illuminated the piece to show all it’s glory.  The dramatic lighting and eerie music really contributed to making the night a success.

The main features of the night were the entrance of all the guests through the ‘gates of hell’, which was set to a very sinister vampire themed piece of video footage with the sound of spooky music and thunder effects and flashing lights to simulate lightning. The ‘Thriller’ video played out on screen as
guests were treated to a rendition of the famous dance scene by the Heads of Department.

The Novotel put their faith in Sounds Commercial and this was rewarded as the equipment did its job, the props looked amazing and a great night was had by all who attended.

ACE Awards 2012

The annual Affinion ACE Awards was a huge success, yet again raising the bar on the previous year. A two day rig and rehearsal schedule culminated in an industrial Orwellian bespoke set and 40ft widescreen that reflected the evening’s performance design.

X-Factor finalist and star of stage and screen Lucie Jones kicked off the show followed by a bespoke full HD opening VT with full motion graphics from the green screen shoot earlier in the year, the audience’s reaction was palpable. ZooNation Dance Company, a ground breaking hip hop theatre company best known for their award winning west end show ‘Into the Hoods’ and their recent award nominated hit ‘Some Like It Hip Hop’, did a breathtaking performance followed by a bespoke dance battle VT of Affinion dance crews shot earlier in the year that caused a standing ovation. The evening awards with individual bespoke stings and twin HD live camera mix was concluded with a final full 15 minute ZooNation performance and the headline party band Tokyo.

To say the gauntlet for the 2013 awards has been laid down is a huge understatement!

The Bristol Dental Hospital Ball at the Bristol Marriott City Centre

On Saturday 7th January 2012 Sounds Commercial transformed the Bristol Suite at the Bristol Marriott City Centre Hotel into the magical Kingdom of Narnia for the Bristol Dental Hospital Ball.

After looking at several options including ice sculptures, star cloth, snow machines and custom-made props we managed to find a design that matched both the clients desired effect and their budget.

Our Set Department thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of creating several bespoke props including a full size walk-through wardrobe through which guests entered and a working nine foot tall lamp post. These combined with some clever blue lighting, fir trees positioned around the room and icicles suspended from the balcony and door frames created the perfect look and feel for the event.

We exceeded all the clients expectations and the Ball was enjoyed by all who attended.
